“Cuba, Libre?” Gets A Radio Show Mention

Thanks to M.J. Pramik for mentioning me and my documentary film about Cuba last Sunday when she and Anne Sigmon were guests on FCC Free Radio’s “Lily Cat on Stuff” show talking about travel, travel writing, and their stories in the recently-released anthology, “To Oldly Go: Tales of Adventurous Travel by the Over-60s .”

Mary Jean (MJ) Pramik is an author, novelist, poet, travel writer, science reporter, and teacher. She has contributed to numerous magazines and journals, anthologies and travel books including Good Housekeeping, Odyssey, and the National Enquirer as well as Ophthalmology Times, Nature Biotechnology, Drug Topics, and Cosmetic Surgery News. She is one of five travel writers who appear in Cuba, Libre?

Anne Sigmon is the author of the memoir in progress Scrambling Back: One Woman’s Quest to Return to the Wild After Stroke and Autoimmune Disease.

Both are headed to Spain next month. Look for stories of their Iberian adventures (or misadventures) to appear in print down the road.

A Cuba Expert’s Update: How Increased Tourism Is Affecting Cuba

When I interviewed Cuba travel expert, Christopher P. Baker, for Cuba, Libre? last July, he pointed out that Cuba needed to add more hotels, particularly outside of Havana, in order to meet the lodging needs of the expected influx of American visitors.

In today’s interview with with Rachelle Akurro of CCTV’s “Global Business” report, Baker underscores that point and talks about how the increase in tourism is affecting that island nation.

A standing-room-only crowed showed up at the Sausalito Public Library on the evening of Friday, February 19th for the second public screening of Cuba, Libre?

After the screening, filmmaker, Dick Jordan, and three travel writers who appear in the film, Monica Conrady, Lee Daley, and M.J. Pramik, fielded questions from the enthusiastic audience about the film and Cuba travel.

Sausalito Public Library Interior Sausalito City Librarian Abbot Chambers tells me that there’s been a lot of “buzz” about this Friday night’s screening of my documentary film, “Cuba, Libre?” and that he expects a standing-room only crowd.

“Cuba, Libre?” Has First Public Screening

An enthusiastic audience was treated to the first public screening of Cuba, Libre? last night at the Community Media Center of Marin in San Rafael, California.

CMCM operates MarinTV, the public access television station that aired the documentary in January.

The next public screening will be held on Friday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the Sausalito Public Library.
