“Cuba, Libre?” Vies for Mindie “Best Doc” Award

Mindie Dec

At the end of December we’ll learn whether Cuba, Libre?has been chosen as “Best Feature Documentary” in this month’s competition at the Miami Independent Film Festival.

Here’s what the “MINDIE” Website says about the festival:

“We know how hard it is for an indie filmmaker to produce and distribute their works.

“Mindie is the tool that every filmmaker needs, in order to showcase and get recognitions for their film: We have created monthly edition to give continuity to the selection process and a steady feedback to the filmmakers. Instead of waiting for months before getting an answer from the festival, filmmakers are immediately contacted if selected. Their work is privately screened every month and evaluated by an international team of experts in the industry.

“The monthly winners will then compete to be screened at our annual event. The event aims to create a strong relationship between filmmakers, producers and distributors from all over the world.”

How Trump’s Plan Policy Changes Will Affect Travel to Cuba by Americans

At an event held in Miami back in June, Donald Trump announced proposed changes to U.S. policy regarding travel to Cuba by Americans which Cuba, Libre? filmmaker, Dick Jordan, analyzed in a post to his online travel magazine, Tales Told From The Road.

Coincidentally, yesterday just before Cuba, Libre? screened last night in Eugene, Oregon, the PBS Newshour aired the the following segment on how those policy changes, if implemented, would impact both Americans planning on visiting the islands and the Cuban government and more importantly, Cuban entrepreneurs involved in tourism.

As the Treasury Department, whose Office of Foreign Assets Control has regulatory control over travel to Cuba by Americans, pointed out on July 25, 2017, it must adopt new regulations before the policy changes announced by Trump can take effect. The PBS Newshour story indicates that those new regulations may be announced next month.
